The Indian Trails Middle School cafeteria was packed with over 400 people who attended the second-annual Hispanic Festival on the evening of Friday, Feb. 22.
This year, students showcased culture from 22 hispanic countries, plus the U.S. (for hispanics in the nation), making 23 countries represented, Spanish teacher Angela Christina Gilliam said.
The main goal of the event is to educate the public about different Hispanic cultures around the world.
Students lined the wall in the cafeteria with project boards detailing the colors and specifics of the hispanic county they represented. The U.S., for hispanics in the nation, was added to the line up this year, in addition to Equatorial Guinea, the only country in Africa that speaks Spanish.
In addition to the displays from the Spanish department, students showcased Hispanic culture in language arts, social studies and visual arts.
The ITMS choir and band entertained the audience, as was as a soloist from Matanzas High School. There was also a photo booth and samples of Mexican food.
