Opelka stuns Isner in Round 1 of Australian Open

Reilly Opelka's parents, George and Lynne, still live in Palm Coast.

Former Palm Coast resident Reilly Opelka, ranked 97th, scored an upset in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday, Jan. 14, in Melbourne. The 21-year-old Opelka, who stands at 6-foot-11, bested No. 9 seed John Isner in four sets (7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 7-6).

It was the first Grand Slam singles win of Opelka's career. 

However, he lost to Thomas Fabbiano in the second round on Tuesday, Jan. 15, in five sets.
