Port Orange resident Savannah Weaver has declared she will run for the District 1 City Council seat, vacated by the late Councilman Bob Ford.
Weaver announced her candidacy on Jan. 26. She has grown up in Volusia County and has been a resident of Port Orange since 2005. Weaver is a Spruce Creek High School alumna and graduated from the Mori Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary Management
at Daytona State College.
Weaver said she believes her experience and managerial skills from being in the culinary field will be assets to help address city issues.
“I love Port Orange and want to help preserve the high quality of life in this city,” said Weaver in a statement.
Weaver has a two-year-old daughter who plays a major role in her reason to run for council. She said she wants to bring a voice to the city for children and women and wants to establish gender balance to the council. If elected, Weaver would be the only woman on the City Council.
She said she is also concerned about community development, traffic, and infrastructure.
“I care about this city and want to see it stay a safe environment to raise my daughter," Weaver said.
