Paying attention to detail

10:06 a.m. — 1600 block of North U.S. 1

Larceny. While responding a call about vandalism, where a vehicle's driver-side window was broken while parked at a local motel, the reporting officer noticed one tiny detail was missing from the car — the license plate's decal.

The owner of the car told him that she hadn't noticed it was missing until he pointed it out, according to the police report. This wasn't the first time the woman had a vehicle vandalized either. Earlier in the month, she was keeping a car parked in her brother-in-law's residence and discovered a hole drilled into her gas tank when she attempted to move it.

The woman told police that she believed an acquaintance of her brother-in-law was responsible for the crimes, as he had threatened to vandalize vehicles after he was allegedly not paid for work he performed with the brother-in-law on the side. The woman told police that the suspect said he was going to "make them pay for it one way or another."

Better safe than sorry

6:40 p.m. — 700 block of East Victoria Circle

Fraud. A man who was previously scammed out of over $3,000, called police when five packages arrived at his house. He opened one of the boxes and found a letter instructing him to cash the enclosed check and text a number to get a list of items to buy at a local supermarket, which he would then have to ship to an undisclosed address that he would receive after the items were purchased.

The man said he wanted police to document the incident because he didn't want to be blamed if someone got scammed or "comes to find him," according to the police report. Police collected all five packages. The man told them he had fallen victim to fraud after someone accessed his ShipStation account to ship $3,156 worth of packages in his name.

Snap out of it

3:57 p.m. — First block of Wimbledon Court

Loitering. A 38-year-old man was arrested by police after he was seen trying to enter the screened patio of a house, where he was confronted by the homeowner. Police report dispatch calls stated the man took off running, and jumped fences before reaching the Halifax River, where officers found hum walking in the water.

The reporting officer noted the man had his hands in the air, and appeared to be chewing. However, he had nothing in his mouth. Police got him out of the water and started asking him why he was going into people's backyards. The man, who explained he had been waiting to be admitted because of his drug addiction, said he had no idea. "I literally, every time someone screamed, I apologized," the man told police, adding that it was like had snapped out of a dream.

He was taken to jail.
