Albert John Brogan Sr. celebrated his 100th birthday with over 50 family members who came to visit from five other states outside of Florida.
The celebration was held at Oceanside Beach Bar & Grille in Flagler Beach on Thursday, July 11. While Brogan’s official birthday is on Dec. 5, the summer party allowed his children, plus over 40 grandchildren and great grandchildren, to throw him a party for the ages.
The following bio was provided by the family:
Brogan was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to a large family during the Great Depression. Upon graduation from school, he signed on with the Civilian Conservation Corps camps and was dispatched to work on the Skyline Drive in Virginia and later entered the U. S Navy, where he served during World War II. Service behind him, he returned home to be with his wife, Margaret McCarthy, for 72 years and began a family of five children, living today. He was employed by the Atlantic Refinery in Philadelphia for over 38 years before retiring with his wife to Port St. Lucie, where they lived until her death in 2013. He returned to the Philly area before relocating to Palm Coast, where he resides today with his daughter, Kathie.
During his time in Port St. Lucie, he was an active member of the Friendly Sons and Daughters of Ireland, where he served as president and as the grand marshal.
Since coming to Palm Coast, he has joined St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church. He recently participated in Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland’s “Walk 90 Miles in 90 Days” challenge. He exceeded that goal and was the oldest participant to receive a medal.
