The Flagler County Art League’s “Just Photography” Show, which opened the evening of Saturday, July 13, has turned out to be one of its biggest midyear shows ever with more than 100 entries in categories ranging from landscapes to street scenes to portraits, photographic art, animals, architecture and more.

The quality was as even more amazing than the quantity, according to a press release from FCAL.

“As always, the photography from the Flagler/Palm Coast community is at a very high level of achievement,” Eric Breitenbach, senior professor at Daytona State College said in the release. “It was difficult to select the winning images; the competition was frequently a toss-up between two or even three images for an award. The bird photography alone could have garnered several more awards if the number of awards in that category was higher.”

Top winners included Dave Bowers, with a Best of Show photographic art rendering of a bird that could have doubled as an oil painting. First of Show was Tom Silvey for his architecture work, “Bridge” which the judge said had “exquisite elements of design.” Second of Show was a stunning portrait by Stephen DiMaria, and Third of Show, an abstract seascape by Janet Bernardini, all familiar as winners in past shows.

The gallery is located at 160 Cypress Point Parkway, Suite A208. Call 986-4668 for hours of operation.

Plantation Bay women make a difference

A group of 12 women who resident in Plantation Bay in Flagler County are making it their mission to help locals in need.

Last fall, they formed a group that is now named SHARE: Seeking to Help All, Realize Every Potential. They began donating their time to the Family Life Center, a nonprofit that works to end domestic violence and sexual assault locally. The group went shopping with Christmas wish lists, for the women at the help center, to help make the holiday joyous.

This spring, SHARE further helped the women at FLC by appealing on Nextdoor Plantation Bay for donations of cosmetics and personal care items to then donate to the women at the center. They deemed this imitative “Project Beautiful” and over 500 cosmetic and personal care items were delivered in time for Mother’s Day.

The group has other projects in store for this year. Watch out for postings on Nextdoor Plantation Bay or call 679-7809 to stay up to date on SHARE.
