Former PGA teaching professional Gerald Fauntleroy shot a career-low round of 67 to finally break his age of 70. The round, played June 23 at Halifax Plantation Golf Club, consisted of seven birdies, nine pars and two bogies — one being a three-putt. Fauntleroy shot 34 on the front nine and 33 on the back nine.
The round included a new points total record of 48 and a points overage record of plus-17, according to Bob Gearst, director of the Sunday Golf Group, where Fauntleroy is one of 70 members.
Former Matanzas High School boys lacrosse player Maximus Schalit, who played for the Pirates as a freshman and sophomore, is going to be playing Division I lacrosse at Notre Dame University this fall. Schalit, who transferred to Ponte Vedra High School for his junior and senior years, was named the Warrior/U.S. Lacrosse Player of the Year for the South, an Under Armour Lacrosse All-American, Florida's "Mr. Lacrosse," a U.S. Lacrosse All-American and a state champion in 2019.
The local dart group The Bullshooters Dart League has moved its weekly tournament to the Social Club of Palm Coast, located at 51 Old Kings Road, on Monday evenings. Beginners are welcome. The game starts at 7 p.m. For more information, call Teresa Sumpter at 386-597-2132.
There will be an adult open gym volleyball session on Aug. 19 through Oct. 2 at the Indian Trails Sports Complex, located at 5455 Belle Terre Parkway in Palm Coast. The sessions are from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. New teams are created weekly. Two nets will be in use, with teams rotating in and out of play. One net is for competitive-style play and the second net is for recreational-style play.
The adult open gym basketball session is from Aug. 20 to Oct. 3 at the Indian Trails Sports Complex. It's from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
