Realty Exchange LLC held its inaugural “Helping Paws” event to raise awareness of much needed funding and supplies for the animals currently being cared for and future care of local dogs and cats, according to a press release.

While Jacqueline C. Davis, one of their firm’s staff members, was busy planning its efforts, it had come to their attention that the organization had three air conditioning units that desperately needed repair or replacement, as well as necessary supplies that needed to be filled.

Davis had collaborated with Realty Exchange’s Julie Sabine, Broker/Owner and David Petkovsek to get all of their staff — nearly 90 real estate agents — as well as the local community, onboard in a huge effort to collect as much as possible. They were able to collect several hundred items including cleaning and office supplies, dog and cat food and toys. In addition, nearly $1,500 was raised toward the air conditioning repairs.

Marjorie Graham celebrated her 101st birthday surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, July 21, at Christ the King Anglican Church in St. Augustine.

Over the past 30 years of her residence in Palm Coast, Graham enjoys staying connected with Christian ministries, spending quality time with family and friends and reminiscing on her many years of service as a caretaker in Antigua, New York, and in Florida.

“Throughout the years I’ve observed that my grandmother lives joyfully, no matter the situation,” said her granddaughter, Tamara Gibson-Alonso. “I believe this, as well as a healthy diet, has impacted her longevity.”

Each winner introduced herself to the members attending the luncheon and told them about their university plans in the coming fall. In addition, three recipients from last year’s awards returned to share with their experiences in the first year of college. These returning students also receive a stipend toward the ensuing year.

The officers for the coming year were also installed at this final meeting for the year. Celebrate Women's Equality Day

American Association of University Women Flagler will host a celebration of the 99th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, forever enshrining the right to vote for women.

Join the group on Monday, Aug. 26, at the Flagler County Public Library, 2500 Palm Coast Parkway, NW. This free event begins at 1 p.m., is open to the public and will feature members of AAUW Flagler participating in a member-authored skit, “Women Won the Vote: How Did THAT Happen.”

As AAUW members give voice to incredible warriors of women’s suffrage, hear of their struggles and victories as they waged a 72-year-long-battle to secure the right to be heard at the ballot box. The skit’s narrator will surprise many in Flagler County as she is a local suffragette who never realized the chance to vote. Immediately following the skit, join AAUW Flagler and the Flagler County Public Library as a display, featuring women’s suffrage books, will be presented. The display will be available for one month in hopes of encouraging readers to learn more of #HERStory.

In anticipation of the 100th Anniversary of the Ratification of the 19th Amendment next year, AAUW Flagler is planning a series of events leading to Women's Equality Day in 2020. The group will be sponsoring an essay contest for seventh and eighth grade students and for students in ninth to 12th grade.
