Kara Beissel, of Ormond Beach, competed in a national Professional Bowling Association tournament on June 29 through July 5 at Sawgrass Lanes in Tamarac. She became the 2019 Teen Masters Junior Varsity champion. In addition, she made the cut and continued on in the competition, finishing 15th overall.
Her final average was 182 over 42 games.
For her efforts, Beissel won a $2,000 scholarship, which will be added to her growing SMART account.
Beissel, who will soon to be 8th-grader at Ormond Beach Middle School, bowls at Ormond Lanes. Her past achievements include first place in the 10-and-under and 12-and-under divisions at the Florida State USBC.
The Buccaneers' Everald Reid announced via Twitter that he and his family were moving back to Miami. He will be attending and playing football for Miami Edison Senior High School for his senior year.
"With that being said I would like to thank Coach [Scott] Wilson, Mainland staff and teammates for pushing me to be the best person I am today within that short period of time," Reid wrote on Twitter.
Mainland point guard Jordan Sears was named as one of the top overall performers at the 2019 HoopSeen's "The Best of the South" on July 16. The 5-foot-10 Sears, who is entering his senior year at Mainland, controlled the pace of the game throughout the week for Team Parsons and had one of his best showings against a Minnesota Fury team that was loaded with prospects, scoring 21 points.
