Palm Coast resident Thomas LeGault has filed to run for Flagler County Commission District 1. That seat is currently held by Commissioner Charlie Ericksen, who was first elected in  2012. Ericksen has not yet filed for reelection.

LeGault, owner of the advertising and marketing platform Savor Flagler, said he's noticed a lack of support from the county for local small businesses. It's one of the several issues that spurred him to run.

"The county doesn’t really help small businesses," he said. "My three things are: mental health awareness, small business, and a better future for our Flagler County children," he said.

LaGault added that he has two sons in the Flagler County school system, at Matanzas High School and Indian Trails Middle School.

He's been a resident of Palm Coast for four years, but has known the city and the county for longer, he said, because his grandmother had lived here since 1996, and he grew up taking childhood vacations in Flagler.

The statement he submitted for his profile on the Flagler County Supervisor of Elections website states:

"Thomas LeGault is a family man with children enrolled in the Flagler County school system. A local business man who focuses on promoting other small businesses within Flagler County. He knows that if we want to give our children a better future, we need to start by making the world a better place today! With Mental Health a rising problem in Flagler County, he is ready to tackle the issue head on and help the families in our community. LeGault 2020. 'Putting our  People First.'"

One other candidate, Leslie Giscombe, filed to run for the District 1 seat, but has since withdrawn his application.
