Burglary. Police arrested a 33-year-old Ormond Beach man who stole two ladders on his bicycle from a local storage facility. The man told officers that he needed one of the ladders for a tree trimming job.
Security footage from the storage facility showed that the man rode into the gated compound initially by following a vehicle inside. He was seen loitering around for almost 40 minutes before taking the ladders from a utility trailer, according to the police report. The man took one first, hoisting it on his shoulder and pedaling away. He then came back, jumped over the wall and opened a button to get his bike to steal the second ladder.
One of the officers recognized him in the security footage and paid him a visit at his sister's residence. The man then admitted to stealing the ladders and told them he left them leaning against a tree behind the storage facility. Both were recovered.
The man was taken to jail.

Petit theft. A 48-year-old Daytona Beach man attempted to steal two ribeye steaks from a local supermarket by removing the meat from its packaging and putting them in his pants, as witnessed by the store's loss prevention officer.
Police reported that the man was confronted at the exit by the employee, who also observed him put on a pair of boots in the shoe department. The merchandise was recovered, but the steaks were unable to be resold since they touched his skin.
The man denied leaving the store and said he hadn't stolen anything. The reporting officer asked him why he put the steaks down his pants, and the man denied the action. "I didn't put no steaks down my pants," he told police, according to the report.
He was trespassed from the store and taken to jail.

Battery touch. A 27-year-old Daytona Beach man was looking for some alone time with his girlfriend in a local retail pharmacy bathroom when they were interrupted by a knock at the door.
The store's manager informed them they couldn't be in the bathroom together, per store policy. The man then exited the bathroom and began arguing with the store manager, and according to the police report, he spit on the store manager's face. A witness told police that she heard the man make a "snorting sound consistent with that of a person preparing to spit a large amount of saliva out," the report states.
After being spit on, the store manager grabbed the man by his neck and pushed him away. The man refused to pursue charges against the store manager for this.
The man and his girlfriend left the store, and the man was later arrested. Both were issued trespass warnings from the retail pharmacy.
