Jordan Keen, one of First Baptist Christian Academy’s 15 seniors in the 2019 graduating class, will begin his eight-year enlistment in the U.S. Army military police on July 1.
“It’s always been my dream job, ever since I was really young, to go into the military,” Keen said. “I grew up in the military because my father served in the Army, as well. So, it became something that I knew and that I knew I wanted to do. God was leading me to do it.”
Keen transferred to FBCA from Flagler Palm Coast High School after his freshman year, when his relationship with God really started to be more serious, he said.
He played football and baseball at FBCA, as well as served as the student chaplain his senior year, which allowed him to preach to his peers multiple times — a passion of his.
“All the teachers were loving and open and really gave me that one-on-one time to help me — not just with my school work but with life situations, as well,” he said.
With less than a month until he leaves for Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for basic training and schooling, Keen said his father is proud of the path he’s chosen.
“He loves it,” Keen said. “He was very supportive of it. He knows it's something I’ve always wanted to do. I’d always go on base with him. He helps me and gives me pointers all the time.”
Keen noted that his classmate, Zayne Smith, who also graduated from FBCA in May, will be going to the same training base as him.
The 15 students in FCBA’s graduating class earned roughly $988,000 in scholarships collectively for universities and colleges, said Jennifer Douglass, FBCA director of advancement.
