Many of the players on the Flagler Bombers’ 10-and-under baseball team remember the struggles they faced last season. It was their first tournament together, and they were getting blow out every game.
“Just growing. I think this is a confidence booster for them. They were keeping each other up. No matter what the score said, they were never out of it.
Kevin Sosa, Flagler Bombers' 10U head coach
The Bombers practiced for a month leading up to the opening day of the Babe Ruth League’s All-Star tournament. The No. 8 seed Bombers faced the No. 1 seed in their district, the New Smyrna Beach Barracudas, on the night of Wednesday, June 12, at the baseball fields of Chase Park in Sanford.
The Bombers had their opportunities to upset the district’s top team.
Bombers second baseman Karter Sosa helped his team record six outs and made it on-base three times, scoring twice. Pitcher Dax Stream “kept us in the game,” according to Bombers head coach Kevin Sosa. And late in the fifth inning, Colin Craig drilled an RBI double that was about 10 feet from clearing the left field wall.
The Bombers lost 11-4, but the coaching staff was still proud of how the team performed.
“They played with heart, they showed character and they showed that they’re not going to quit,” Kevin Sosa said. “I think this is a confidence booster for them. They were keeping each other up. No matter what the scoreboard said, they were never out of it. I’m proud of them.”
