Food Brings Hope's Feed-A-Family program received a monetary boost thanks to a $15,000 donation from Bank of America.
The donation was made possible through Bank of America's Charitable Foundation Grant, according to a press release, and will also help with the VCan2020 campaign aiming to end childhood hunger and homelessness in Volusia County by 2020. The Feed-A-Family program provides families with 40-pound food bags in partnership with Halifax Urban Ministries.
The check was presented to FBH Founder and Chair Forough B. Hosseini and Executive Director Judi Winch by Bank of America's East Central Florida Market President Cindy Politis and Senior Vice President and Market Manager Karen Jacobs. Family Renew Community recently presented Ormond Beach residents Dr. W.K. and Linda McGrane with a Big Bang award for their efforts in expanding support for local programs fighting family homelessness.
The Big Bang award recognized their $10,000 gift, which inspired others to match it by more than one-and-half times, according to a press release. The contributions will fund Family Renew Community's 30th-anniversary awareness campaign, Restoring Hope to Homeless Families Since 1989. The multimedia campaign will launch July 1.
Other major sponsors included Ormond Beach residents John and Kathleen Vivian, and Overhead Door Co. of Daytona Beach. Family Renew offers housing and help for homeless families with children in 32 apartments located in Holly Hill, Daytona Beach and DeLand. The Rotary Club of Downtown Ormond Beach presented Lisa Huser, owner and director of Addiction Treatment Advocates Inc., with a $300 check after Huser spoke to the club about efforts to fight opioid abuse.
Addiction Treatment Advocates was founded by two nurses certified in addiction medicine who, through their work experience, identified the necessity for alternative treatment built around the needs of the individual, according to a press release. The firm provides in-home detoxification and addiction medication management services, combined with education intervention and prevention services.

More than 3,500 members of the Daughters of the American Revolution will convene in Washington D.C. for the 128th Continental Congress, the latest gathering of the service organization's annual meeting, according to a press release by the Capt. James Ormond chapter.
