Sandy Garner, a physical education teacher at Mainland High School and a former volleyball coach, had the opportunity to play volleyball in the 60+ division at the National Senior Games in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her team placed second in the championship division. There were 40 teams in her age group. Her team went undefeated, winning eight straight matches without dropping a set — until the final match. Garner was the only player from Florida on her team.
Father Lopez Catholic High School promoted defensive coordinator Chris Stephenson to take over as the Green Wave's next head football coach. Stephenson went 11-8 in two seasons in charge at Mount Dora from 2016-2017. This promotion comes after the recent departure of former Green Wave head coach Matt Knauss, who left Father Lopez for Orange Park Ridgeview.
Father Lopez Catholic High School's Lisa Colee shot a 69 to qualify fro the 2019 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship, which will be held on July 22-27 at SentryWorld Golf Course in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
