Port Orange residents Jerome Hamilton, 30, and Dalton Worley, 21, are among some of the first veterans to use their VA benefits to cover their tuition at the Florida campus of the Northwest Lineman Center.
NLC was recently approved to accept VA benefits helping veterans prepare for a career in a high demand trade that has approximately 10,000 entry-level jobs each year, as reported in the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook.
NLC is located in Edgewater and offers a 15-week Electrical Lineworker Program that trains students for entry level positions in the power delivery industry with 50% of the workforce retiring in the next five years.
"NLC has exceeded my expectations," said Hamilton in a press release. "Their level of training and standards will set you up for a successful career. One of the best decisions I have made towards a career.”
Hamilton and Worley are recent graduates of NLC’s Electrical Lineworker Program and are taking the first steps in their new journey into such a challenging and rewarding career in the power delivery industry.
“The infantry was a brotherhood and NLC is the closest thing I have found to that,” said Worley in a press release.
In the month of May, Port Orange Firefighters responded to 709 calls for service.
According to the agency's Facebook account, here are what those calls were made up of.
