9:43 p.m. — 3800 block of Clyde Morris Boulevard
Driving while license suspended. A 35-year-old man, with four separate suspensions, was caught driving with a suspended license again. Police later learned the man was also on probation for petit theft, according to the report.
The man told police he knew his license was suspended and a criminal history check showed he also had a failure to appear in 2017. Due to his probation status, the man was taken to jail and given a criminal citation for this offense.
8:40 a.m. — 5400 block of West Bayshore Drive
DUI. An anonymous call to police lead to the finding of a 27-year-old man sleeping in his truck — in a driveway that was not his. During the call, police were told the man was asleep and that they could smell alcohol coming from the vehicle, according to the report.
Upon arrival, the truck was idling and the man was still asleep. Police knocked on the windows and rocked the vehicle back and forth. The man did not wake up, but, they could see him breathing. The officer noticed the doors were unlocked, opened the door and the man woke up after being shaken.
The man was disoriented and thought he was on the beachside, according to the report. He did not know what city he was in and told police he gave a friend a ride home the night prior, after they left the bar.
After failing a series of sobriety tests, the man was arrested and taken to jail.
11:28 a.m. — 1500 block of Dunlawton Avenue
Trespass. An 81-year-old man was arrested after he was caught inside a local retail store ripping tags off items and placing them into a bag. This was not his first time in the store; he had already been trespassed from the property.
When police contacted the man, he started taking items out of his pockets and throwing them under the clothing racks, according to the report. Due to a prior failure to appear in court and because he was homeless, the man was taken to jail.
1:05 p.m. — 3700 block of Clyde Morris Boulevard
Illegal possession of shopping cart and petit theft. A 60-year-old man was stopped by an officer after he was seen walking down the sidewalk with a shopping cart from a local retail store. Police later found items in the shopping cart from the store, in bags, with no receipt, according to the report.
A criminal history check of the man showed numerous petit theft convictions, therefore he was placed under arrest. The man originally told police the receipt was on his cell phone, and then admitted he did not have a cell phone and said he threw the receipt away. A review of surveillance footage showed the man placing items into bags in the store and leaving without paying, according to the report.
The man then told police he entered the store with the intentions to get something to eat. He later admitted he only stole the items because he was hungry and he no longer had a drug habit, according to the report. He was taken to jail.
