On June 26, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Deputy Seth Green conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge truck for speeding, failure to stop at a stop sign, and changing lanes without signaling.
When Deputy Green made contact with the driver, Michael Berglund 28, he noticed a strong odor of cannabis from within the vehicle.
FCSO deputies informed Berglund of the smell and asked if he could explain it. Berglund told deputies that he did smoke cannabis but only while at work. Berglund then gave deputies permission to search his car and informed them that the only thing they would find inside was a burnt “roach” from smoking marijuana earlier, and possibly a pistol.
Upon searching the vehicle, deputies located 14.9 grams of Methamphetamine, 67 grams of Marijuana, a digital scale, multiple loose plastic baggies known to be used for narcotics distribution, a loaded 9MM Pistol, and various other drug paraphernalia.
Most of the narcotics were discovered in Berglund’s center console, but he also had built-in storage containers within the bed of his truck.
This is not Berglund’s first run-in with law enforcement. He was first arrested in Flagler County in August of 2018 for Driving While License Suspended, but has since racked up charges for Domestic Battery on a Pregnant Woman, Possession of Hashish, and Failure to Appear.
“This is a great example of how proactive policing works,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This is a guy with a violent past who was driving around with a loaded weapon and looking to sell drugs to the people of our community. We will never know how many lives an arrest like this saves. Thankfully, he is behind bars at the Green Roof Inn. Now it’s up to the prosecution and courts to make sure he is held accountable.”
Michael Berglund was arrested and charged with Trafficking of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana over 20 Grams, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is currently being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $26,500.00 bond.
