The Ormond Beach Lions Club honored Seabreeze High School senior Cameron Bowling as its student-athlete of the month for February.
Cameron is a three-year starter as goalie on the school soccer team, and is currently serving as team captain. He was named First Team, All-Area in 2017 and Second Team All Area in 2018 by the Orlando Sentinel. He also serves as an athletic trainer for Seabreeze Sports Medicine, and a field marshal at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
Aside from sports, he has a 4.47 GPA and ranks 10th in his senior class. He serves as the president of the Allied Health Academy and vice president of the National Honor Society. He plans to attend the University of Central Florida with the goal to later attend medical school and become an orthopedic surgeon.
Hinson Middle School students focused during the month of February on raising awareness and donations for two local pet shelters: The Halifax Humane Society and Sophie's Circle.
Future Educators of America, the National Junior Honor Society and student government at Hinson joined forces to make this possible. Members worked non-stop to get the whole school involved with competitions, and fundraisers on campus. Over $300 and 643 pounds of pet supplies were donated thanks to students, staff and families.
The Rotary Club of Downtown Ormond Beach raised $733 for Provision Packs, which provides food to over 200 local elementary school children so they're able to have nutritious meals over the weekends and school holidays.
The donation was made possible through the club's distribution of holiday cards to area businesses encouraging patrons to donate to feeding hungry school children, with some of the businesses contributing directly. All of the proceeds went to Provision Packs, and every $5 donated is turned into a $25-30 bag of food through partnerships with Second Harvest Food Bank, Publix and Perrine's Produce.

The Captain James Ormond Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented John Brinkley with a community service award at its February meeting. Brinkley is the founder of the Veterans Museum and Education Center in Daytona Beach, and the museum aims to educate the public about the importance of veterans and paying tribute to their service and sacrifice.
At the meeting, the DAR also inducted Nancy Roddy as a new member. The featured speaker was Patricia Giaccone from the Family Life Center in Bunnell. She shared statistics regarding victims of domestic abuse and highlighted the variety of free services available.
