The morning of Monday, March 4, Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly visited three local schools to present three exceptional students with awards for being “Great Kids.”
“There are some wonderful kids attending Flagler County Schools and I’m honored to be able to highlight some of them with Great Kids Award from the Sheriff,” said Sheriff Rick Staly in the news release. “These students are making a positive impact on their schools and deserve a pat on the back.”
Jada Wirt is a student ambassador at Old Kings Elementary School who embodies the skills and qualities of a true leader.
Jared Foley is a student at Imagine School at Town Center. He serves as one of the school’s emerging leaders, guiding younger students to help them achieve their goals.
James Antoine is a freshman at Matanzas High School. James is a student-athlete on the JV football team and is admired by all of his peers and teammates, who came out to help recognize James when he was awarded.
Five First Baptist Christian Academy students from Mr. Allman’s and Mrs. Thomas’s english classes were recognized for their Patriot’s Pen Essays on Friday, Feb. 22, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8696 in Palm Coast.
The FBCA winners were: Carter Jensen (first), Ashtyn Alonzo (second), Mary Joyce Thomas (third), Katherine Thomas (fourth) and Jack Starrett (fifth).
Flagler County Court Judge Melissa Moore Stens got married to John Distler, the business development manager at Yellowstone Landscaping, on Feb. 18 at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort.
She's now Judge Melissa Distler. Tom Bexley, Flagler County clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller, officiated the ceremony.
A welcoming group greeted Rabbi Roseanne Eberle at her first Shabbat service the evening of Friday, Feb. 1, at Temple Beth Shalom, 40 Wellington Drive. She led the congregation through prayer, song and a meaningful message of joy, unity and love for each other.
On March 1, Rabbi Rose celebrated all new members who have joined Temple Beth Shalom in the previous year with special blessings.
Rabbi Rose has served posts as rabbi, counselor, educator and chaplain for several synagogues and agencies in Flagler and Volusia Counties since 2014, including that of Rabbi of Temple Shalom in Deltona while undergoing transition, and assistant to the spiritual leader of Temple Shalom in The Villages.

For an inspirational Saturday, Mount Calvary Baptist Church held a Boyz-2-Men Conference at the church, located at 75 Pine Lakes Path.
The guest speakers were former NBA great Cazzie Russell and New York University professor Terrance Coffie, the brother of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church pastor.
Young men who attended received a light lunch and breakfast while soaking up life lessons from the speakers.
