In the retail wonderland of the LPGA/Williamson area, there’s now a place where you can join Lara Croft in an adventure, battle dinosaurs or aliens, race motorcycles, ride a snowboard or drive the Batmobile.
You can do these things, virtually, at Dave and Buster’s, which recently opened at 1507 Cornerstone Blvd. in Tomoka Town Center The 30,000 building features more than 150 arcade games, a restaurant and a sports bar with large TV screens for what General Manager Dave Joy calls a stadium experience.
(Joy said his name is Dave, but he’s not THE Dave.)
The seventh Dave and Buster’s in Florida, the local business hired 260 people.
The menu features a variety of burgers, tacos, sliders, chicken fingers, tacos, etc. Joy said guest can enjoy just the arcade, restaurant or sports bar, or all three.
“We’re easy,” he said.
At a ribbon cutting on March 11, Joy also pointed out the Jurassic World Expedition, an interactive virtual reality cinematic experience.
Guests buy a card to participate in the games, and can redeem the card for prizes, just like many traditional arcades.
Nancy Keefer, president and CEO of Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, liked the fact that the venue offers private spaces for business meetings and fun team-building activities.
“We’re very excited to have you here,” she told Joy.
Edith Shelley, former Daytona Beach city commissioner, said she remembered when the Planning Board talked about attracting a Dave and Buster’s eight years ago. At that time, Glenn Ritchey was mayor of Daytona Beach and helped pave the way for the businesses that are now cropping up in the Tanger Mall area.
“He laid the groundwork for when the economy got better and these things became possible,” she said.
Lori Campbell Baker, director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, expects the business to be a draw for tourists.

Skin treatment studio opens
Karin Finch, facial specialist and esthetician, has taken the leap and opened her own business, Blush Skin Care Studio, at 555 W. Granada Blvd., Suite A8. Previously, she shared space with another business on Nova Road.
She’s excited about starting her business and said she wishes she hadn’t waited for so long. Originally from New Jersey, she has been in the area 24 years.
She enjoys making people feel good about themselves, she said. She works a lot with teens and helps build their confidence.
“It’s not one size fits all,” she said. “I customize the treatment for what they need.”
She works a lot with acme, anti-aging, hyper pigmentation, exfoliating, etc. Recently, she has been studying Korean skin care.
“They are far ahead of us,” she said.

Lohmans aid diabetes foundation
Lowell and Nancy Lohman, of Ormond Beach, have donated $100,000 to Halifax Health Foundation and the Volusia County division of the Help A Diabetic Child Foundation for the coordination of a diabetes symposium featuring world-renowned experts and a monthly community outreach series at Halifax Health|YMCA Healthy Living Centers in Volusia County. The symposium is scheduled to take place Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Port Orange YMCA.
