A homeless man robbed a Shell gas station on the morning of Sunday, March 17, according to a news release by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
The store clerk at the Shell gas station at 890 Palm Coast Parkway reported a robbery at around 4 a.m. Sunday. The clerk told deputies that a known homeless man, later identified to be Justin James Taylor, entered the store and walked directly behind the counter. He took a pack of cigarettes and a can of tobacco and punched the clerk in the face when the clerk tried to stop him.
The suspect fled from the store on a bicycle prior to law enforcement's arrival.
Deputies made contact with Taylor, who has prior encounters with law enforcement, in the parking lot at Kohl's, and he admitted to the incident. While attempting to detain Taylor, he balled his fists and attempted to lunge at deputies and then fled on foot toward the Verizon parking lot.
Deputies pursued Taylor on foot and apprehended him without injury. Taylor continued to struggle with deputies and resisted arrest.
Taylor was taken into custody and charged with strong arm robbery and resisting arrest with violence, among other charges. Taylor had been previously trespassed from the Shell convenience store on Jan. 20.
He was taken Flagler County Jail where he is being held without bond.
Taylor has a prior arrest history in Flagler County for domestic battery, aggravated assault, abuse of the elderly, trespassing and violation of probation.
