1:40 p.m. — 600 block of South Yonge Street
Battery touch. Police arrested a 45-year-old Ormond Beach woman who allegedly pushed and punched a couple family members during a "large rumble" in their family restaurant. The woman, who is the restaurant owners' sister and sister-in-law, was still inside the establishment arguing with the family when police arrived.
According to a report, the fight ensued after a minor verbal disagreement between the two sisters, during which the restaurant owner called her husband to intervene. The woman said that when he arrived, she told him he didn't need to get involved because her sister was "just being a drama queen."
The woman then said her brother-in-law then got in close proximity to her and started pointing in her face, and that she didn't feel comfortable with this and pushed him away. Her sister then got involved and several family members told police they all jumped in to separate the fight.
All three declined medical attention. The woman was determined to be the primary aggressor and taken to jail.
4:40 p.m. — Intersection of North U.S. 1 and Nova Road
DUI. A 56-year-old Ormond Beach woman thanked officers for being "so nice" to her while she was being investigated for drunk driving. The woman had been involved in a car accident.
Police report that the woman's pupils were enlarged and her eyes were bloodshot. An "overwhelming odor" of alcohol was emanating from her mouth as well, according to the report. For the field sobriety exercises, the officers asked to take her to the station, as the location they were at wasn't safe. The report notes she had to lean on multiple officers while walking.
The woman performed, and failed, the exercises once at the station. At one point during the explanation of an exercise, she told officers, "I know I can do better."
During a search of the vehicle, police found a cardboard container of wine. There was only a small portion left. She was taken to jail.
1:12 p.m. — 600 block of South Yonge St.
Grand theft. A 53-year-old Holly Hill woman stole about $3,100 from a local convenience store by reaching over the counter and opening the cash register drawer while the store owner was distracted stocking shelves. She was arrested five days later after police spotted her vehicle in town.
Police report that on the day of the incident, the woman had taken a seat at one of the store's gambling machines. She played games for almost 40 minutes. After she grabbed the cash from the register, she returned to her seat at the gambling machine for a few more minutes before she left. The store owner told police the woman had been in the store four or five times before, and that she typically stayed for a long time gambling.
The woman told police that she didn't steal $3,100, believing she "only" counted between $1,700-1,775. She said she spent the money on her grandchildren. She was taken to jail.
