The Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions Club had a busy March thus far, attending meetings, sorting items from its food drive and cleaning the beach and A1A during tis quarterly clean-up.

The Lions began the month with five members joining 110 other Lions for across the District at the Spring Council of Governors meeting in Orlando, held from March 1-3. The three-day meeting included a pajama welcome party, a banquet and a breakfast. On March 9, seven members traveled to Satellite Beach to attend the final District Advisory meeting for this Lions year. The club's charter member and First Vice District Governor Greg Evans ran the meeting, which was attended by almost 100 people.

On March 10, the Lions, along with members from Riverview United Methodist Church sorted food items from its February "Love our Children" food drive and boxed them. The next day, the food was delivered to Ortona Elementary School. This helped provide meals for students during spring break.

Later that day, eight members and their family and friends cleaned the beach and A1a during the quarterly Adopt a Beach/Road clean-up effort. The Lions Club also participated in the White Cane Weekend on March 14 and 15. Twenty members took two-hour shifts at both Publix and Alfie's Restaurant to solicit donations to help pay for the eye exams for the less fortunate. So far this year, the Lions Club has handled eight eyeglass cases, with one possibly needing eye surgery.

The Lions Club meets on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at Alfie's Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. Call 441-4421.
