Carol Mini opened an envelope, and a monarch butterfly crawled out and settled into her palm, as the crowd at the main stage in Town Center held its breath. Mini, the city of Palm Coast's urban forester, told the crowd that the butterfly had been frozen and was now regaining its energy to fly away. Mini's 3-year-old daughter, Sophia, stood close by and was inches away when the monarch finally took flight.
The city's Arbor Day Celebration drew thousands of residents for the butterfly release, the tree giveaway, recognition of participants of the Mayor's 90/90 challenge, "Star Wars"-themed drone demonstrations and other vendor booths.
