Public or private?

8 p.m. — 1500 block of West Granada Boulevard

Information. Police were called in regard to solicitors in a department store parking lot. A man in the lot told the officer that he and several friends were petitioning in reference to a political agenda. The man, whose address was given as “transient,” said he believed the parking lot was owned by the public. He then cited city ordinances that did not make sense to the officer.

An officer explained to the subject that he was inaccurate in all of his statements, and that he and his friends were going to be trespassed from the property.

The subject and his friends left the property.

Parking problems

5:16 p.m. — 800 Block of South Atlantic Avenue

Information. The restaurant manager had asked a man to move his car. The man said the business would lose his patronage, and the manager responded, “Sorry, but OK,” according to an incident report. The man then moved his car to another spot which was also not allowed. When approached by security, the man said they would have to tow the car, and then entered the business.

The manager told the man he was not welcome. The man referred to himself as law enforcement, but left the area.

The manager later received a call from someone who claimed to be from the Federal Dept. of Law Enforcement, asking why his employee was ejected for simply wanting to eat. The manager asked the caller why FDLE would be involved in such a trivial matter. The manager said the caller sounded a lot like the man who had left earlier, and he told him he should not be making calls like that.

The police officer took information that was collected, and went to the home of the man, who told the officer that he was never given a reason to move his car. He said he did not make the phone call.

The man was trespassed from the business and an intelligence bulletin was created. In the report, the officer stated that at no time did he hear the man state he was a police officer or involved with any specific agency.
