The Rymfire Elementary School Music Department presented its spring concert, “A Night at the Movies,” on Thursday, May 9. There were many different performances, including K-2 Chorus, Beginning Steel Band, Advanced Steel Band, third- to sixth-grade chorus and faculty performances. More than 100 students and staff participated. The Music Program is made possible and supported by the Rymfire PTO through money used to purchase music and needed equipment. Additionally, Anthony Wild from Kids Rock the Nation donated all of the guitars and drum sets for the guitar club and steel band programs.
Two participants in the Flagler Sheriff’s Police Athletic League Middle School Sports Track and Field program participated in the Florida Youth Running Association “FLYRA” State Meet over the weekend of May 11-12, according to a press release.
Flagler Sheriff’s School Resource Deputy Sam Cooper and Indian Trails Middle School head track coach Kathleen Hoover provided leadership and support in Bradenton for Travaine Whittick, who ran a 54.7 in the 400 meters, and Brayden Cox who placed first in the state in discus, throwing a 142.7 and 76 in aero javelin.
“It was an accomplishment that our kids qualified for the State Championship Meet, and for one of them to actually win it overall was icing on the cake,” SRD Cooper said in the news release.
The Rymfire Elementary School Field Days kicked off Monday, May 13, with first graders exercising all day while having fun. Over the course of two weeks, seven different grade levels and more than 1,100 students will participate in a variety of fitness activities. The students get to enjoy 12 different stations, team sports, relay races, water relays and the popular tug of war tournament.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly presented three students with “Great Kids” awards for the month of May, on Wednesday, May 8, according to a press release.
“This is one of my favorite days of the month because we are able to recognize kids that are making great choices and setting good examples for their peers,” Staly said in the news release.
Emma Stanford, Bunnell Elementary School student, is part of a Gold Star family and has been a strong supporter of the FCSO and of the K9 Unit, providing them with treats and toys over the course of the year including Christmas gifts.
Roymara Myrtha Louissaint, an Indian Trails Middle School students, has earned all As this year, has had perfect attendance and is a role model for her peers. She is involved in Indian Trails PAL Middle School Track and is an outstanding athlete. She volunteers at her church, and enjoys handing out homemade blessing bags to those in need.
Cadence Lasher, a Matanzas High School student, is a member of the Law & Justice Flagship program. She is a student-athlete — finding time to play golf for MHS while maintaining good grades.
