The ninth-annual MayDay Memorial Surf Classic took place on Saturday, May 11, at the Flagler Beach Pier.
The surf competition was founded in 2011 by Flagler Beach native and USA National Surfing Champion, Haley Watson. It's held in loving memory of her mother, Dollie Sue Watson, with the mission to promote awareness of heart disease.
With 13 different divisions, the event attracted nearly 100 of the top surfers from all over the East Coast, Watson said.
All of the proceeds raised are donated to benefit the cardiology center at Halifax Health. Visit http://maydaymemorialsurfclassic.com.
