Port Orange Elementary School students who were the top money makers from a walk-a-thon school fundraising event got an end-of-the-year treat for their hard work.
A white limo from Elegant Limousines glided to a stop in front of the school at10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 13, to take them to Chuck E. Cheese's for lunch. After politely listening to limo driver Mike Denning give directions about safety, students filed into the 37-foot limo, laughing, smiling and chattering about their adventure-to-be.
Physical Education teacher Julie Kirton was in charge of making sure the children were present and onboard the limo. Students who were able to go included:
Korbin Masi was a top fundraiser, also, but was unable to attend the limo-to-lunch day. Parents Stephanie Dahl and Jason Gill went along as additional chaperones for the students.
Dr. Sean Bannan first established his practice in 2014 in South Daytona. Since that time, Water’s Edge Dental had outgrown the original building and Bannan decided to relocate to Port Orange, his hometown.
“We just really try to take good care of people and over time we’ve gained momentum and grown and we got to the point where we had to move," Bannan said. "We ran out of room. We plateaued."
When the opportunity came up for Bannan to move the practice to Port Orange, it was appealing to him.
“It appealed to my small town roots," he said. "I live here and am raising my family here, my children go to school here."
The new building is a former bank that offers more parking and treatment rooms for patients.
Bannan gives credit to his wife Katie and office manager Loren Baldwin for expanding the coastal living environment for patients as they come for service.
Baldwin said that the best part of being in the new building has been the increased close relationships the staff has developed with each other and their patients.
“We’re just thankful to be where we’re at, to have the support again from the team and our wonderful patients,” Bannan said. “You know, my heart is very full and I feel very, very blessed.”
Patient Sally Dowling used to travel to Orlando for dental care, but does not do that any longer.
"I firmly believe I have the best dentist in all of Volusia County," Dowling said.
