Flagler Palm Coast head coach Travis Roland expected his team, which suffered from a heartbreaking 14-7 loss to DeLand in Week 10, to come out slow in the Bulldogs’ senior night game against Hagerty the night of Friday, Nov. 1, at FPC High School.
“But thankfully, the other team talked a little trash before the game,” Roland said. “So we came out with a little more spunk.”
The Bulldogs dominated, defeating Hagerty 35-6 to conclude the 2019 regular season with an 8-2 record.
After a 7-point first quarter, the Bulldogs scored 28 points in the second period to take a 35-0 lead at halftime, prompting a running clock in the second half.
Hagerty scored its lone touchdown late in the game, when FPC had multiple freshmen getting playing time on defense.
Up next, the Bulldogs face Apopka at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Apopka High School in the first round of the FHSAA State Playoffs. It’s FPC’s third-straight year in the playoffs, and the Bulldogs have experienced a first-round loss each of the last two seasons.
“We have to be ourselves,” Roland said. “Sometimes we make too big of a deal of who we’re playing. We have to be true to who we are and what’s made us a good football team.”
