Not only does Thanksgiving signal the start of the holiday season, it is also one of the biggest holiday shopping weekends of the year. In response, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is preparing for increased pedestrian and traffic at retail locations throughout the county and will have increased patrols to help ensure the safety of the customers, businesses and their employees.
FCSO will provide a visible uniform presence at business locations as well as increased traffic control and enforcement within areas that are expected to bring in shoppers and traffic congestion. In addition to responding to calls for service, FCSO patrol units will increase patrols in the business areas with patrol cars, the bicycle unit and foot patrol.
“The FCSO will be working hard to prevent crime opportunities during the holiday season,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Our goal is to ensure a safe holiday shopping experience for our residents and businesses. You can do your part and help us fight crime by using common sense crime prevention techniques. Remember, lock your car doors, put your shopping bags in the trunk and, if posible, do not carry cash.”
FCSO will be conducting countywide speed, aggressive driving and DUI enforcement this Thanksgiving weekend. FCSO asks residents planning to celebrate the holiday to also plan for a sober ride home and to slow down.
“There is no excuse for operating a vehicle under the influence. You will only get a trip to the Green Roof Inn,” Staly said. “My advice is to drive sober and obey the traffic laws. Don’t spend your holiday in the lock-up.”
