Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to mile marker 296 on I-95 southbound early the morning of Monday, Oct. 7, a fleeing vehicle that was being pursued by Clay County Sheriff’s Office and St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office deputies for multiple felony charges regarding a theft that occurred earlier at a Clay County Walmart and aggravated assault on Duval and Clay County officers and deputies.
FCSO deputies attempted to stop the vehicle using stop sticks at mile marker 296 but were unsuccessful. The vehicle continued to travel southbound and at mile marker 284, the stop sticks were successfully deployed. The vehicle continued but became disabled at mile marker 281, where two of the occupants fled on foot from the disabled vehicle.
One occupant, Michael Ellis, 35, stayed in the car, surrendered and was detained. One fleeing suspect fled southeast while the other fled westbound. The FCSO, working together with CCSO and SJSO, established perimeters for both of the fleeing suspects. The FCSO K-9 Unit along with SJSO also assisted.
After a short search of the wooded area behind Universe Court, one suspect, Antrell Bryant, 27, was found crouching down in the bushes. He was detained without incident.
The third suspect was not located but is described as a middle-aged black male.
A search of the suspects’ vehicle found multiple stolen items including LEGO playsets, BluRay DVDs, kitchen appliances and much more believed to be stolen from Walmart stores in Duval and Clay counties.
During the pursuit, a Flagler deputy sustained an injury to his left leg and was taken to Advent Health where he received treatment and was released.
“This is a great example of how our neighboring agencies and FCSO all work together to stop crime in its tracks,” Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly said."
Ellis and Bryant were taken to the Flagler County Jail. Ellis was charged with felony violation of probation and is being held without bond. Bryant was charged with resisting an officer without violence and is being held on a $500 bond. Additional felony charges are expected on the suspects from the Jacksonville and Clay County Sheriff’s Offices.
