Mainland bounced back from its 36-22 loss to Cocoa with a 52-28 win over Westwood Academy the night of Friday, Oct. 11, at Daytona Stadium.
The Buccaneers struck first with a 7-yard touchdown pass from quarterback T.J. Lockley to receiver Lucas Williamson with 9:17 to play in the first quarter. Place kicker Ethan Gettman tacked on a 53-yard field goal, the longest field goal in Mainland history, to give the Buccaneers a 10-0 lead.
Lockley connected with Ra'Mello Dotson for two more scores in the first half, vaulting Mainland to a 33-7 lead.
In addition, Lockley returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a 90-yard score and ran for a 46-yard score in the fourth quarter.
Buccaneers defensive lineman Laron Davis finished off the win for Mainland, recording a pass deflection and sacking Westwood Academy's quarterback twice, including one for a safety.
Mainland improved to 3-3 on the season.
