After three-straight losses, the Pirates put up a fight against St. Augustine the night of Friday, Oct. 11, at St. Augustine High School.
The Yellowjackets scored the first touchdown of the night with 9:32 to play in the first quarter, but Matanzas' Jeremy Mejias recovered a muffed punt to put the Pirates within scoring range. Kicker Stephen Usina drilled a field goal to cut the deficit to 7-3. The Yellowjackets led by as much as 19 in the opening half, but a touchdown from sophomore receiver Noah Cundiff cut St. Augustine's lead to 21-10.
Despite several more scores from St. Augustine, Cundiff was able to tack on two more touchdowns in the second half, including a 73-yard reception from quarterback Demontre Neely.
Neely threw a touchdown pass to Tristian White to make the score 43-29.
