Flagler County on Friday severed the employment of Tourism Director Matt Dunn.

The move was made as part of a new vision for the Tourism Development Office, which has crafted a new Strategic Plan that has been approved by its advisory council and will go before the Board of County Commissioners in the near future.

“This decision was not made because of any alleged misconduct,” County Administrator Jerry Cameron said. “The termination was based solely on a review of his skill set, and the operational activities of the office under his direction. He is not ideally suited for the new direction of the Tourism Development Office.”

Dunn has been on paid administrative leave since April 4 pending the outcome of an investigation regarding potential financial irregularities. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office turned the investigation over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which Flagler County understands still has an open case file.

“No disciplinary action was taken against Mr. Dunn by the county in any form,” Cameron said. “We realized with the changes in our tourism program that he was not a good fit. We wish Mr. Dunn well, and future success.”
