A Matanzas High School student was arrested at around 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, after engaging in a fight on campus, striking a school official and resisting an officer with violence, according to a charging affidavit released by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

Matanzas Assistant Principal Amanda Kraverotis called the school resource officer requesting assistance for a fight in Building No. 6 by the culinary classroom.

Two deputies responded, but by the time they go to the scene, the fight was already broken up. Matanzas Principal Jeff Reaves had the student against the wall in an attempt to stop him from fighting. The student struck Reaves in the face, kneed him and pushed him in an attempt to get to the other student.

The student didn’t respond to deputies’ commands to stop. Deputies attempted to get the student to the ground, but he resisted. After a deputy got him to the ground, the student grabbed the deputy’s hips and tried to grab the deputy’s duty belt.

The student was eventually subdued and placed in handcuffs. However, he continued to resist and tried to get away.

The student was taken to the Flagler County Jail and charged with battery on a school official and resisting an officer with violence. The Department of Juvenile Justice will determine further placement for the student.
