Bicyclist hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by car on U.S. 1

The cyclist was riding against traffic in the left lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A Holly Hill woman was riding a bicycle on U.S. 1 near the Thunder Gulch Campground at about 10:52 p.m. the night of Oct. 17 when she was struck by a car and critically injured. Her name is being withheld by law enforcement pending notification of kin.

The woman was riding against traffic, heading north in the left southbound lane of U.S.1, when she was struck by a 2005 Pontiac GP driven by an 18-year-old Bunnell resident, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release. 

The Pontiac driver had tried to break before colliding with the cyclist, according to the news release. The cyclist was taken to Halifax Medical Center with critical injuries, according to the news release.

The Pontiac driver and her 19-year-old passenger were both uninjured.
