The Bulldogs had one last shot.
With the Bulldogs down 7, Flagler Palm Coast quarterback Preston Roberts dropped back to pass on fourth down from DeLand’s 16-yard line with 6 seconds left in regulation. He rifled it to the right corner of the end zone, over the outstretched arms of two DeLand defensive backs.

FPC receiver Tyshawn Blount reached for the ball — but he couldn’t hold on to it.
The Bulldogs (7-2) fell short 14-7 to rival DeLand the night of Friday, Oct. 25, at Spec Martin Municipal Stadium.
“We played a great game,” FPC coach Travis Roland said. “Two great football teams going at it. Two great defensive teams going at it. We knew it was going to be that way.”
The Bulldogs scored their lone touchdown with 5:41 to play in the first quarter: FPC forced DeLand to punt on its first drive of the game. FPC blocked it, and Abrie Williams scooped up the loose ball and returned it for a touchdown.
FPC’s defense dominated for much of the game but surrendered DeLand’s first touchdown on a 2-yard run late in the third quarter.
After FPC’s offense stalled on a drive late in the fourth quarter, DeLand’s Avontae Williams broke free for the go-ahead 30-yard touchdown run to give DeLand a 14-7 lead with 2:36 left in regulation.
FPC’s offense could not respond with a touchdown on its final possession. Friday night’s game was the first time this season the FPC’s offense was held scoreless.
“We weren’t executing. We had too many ‘my bads’ tonight,” FPC quarterback Preston Roberts said. “I want to see us learn from this loss and ride it into the playoffs.”
