Flagler Palm Coast has gotten off to a fast start to the 2019 season, following up its win over crosstown rival Matanzas in Week 1 with a 53-22 drubbing of Clay on the night of Friday, Aug. 30, at FPC High School.
Bulldogs quarterback Donovan Montoyo threw for a touchdown and rushed for two scores and running back Marc Genis rushed for three touchdowns.
Future Division I running back Ty Jenkins, who had been dealing with a hamstring injury the past three weeks, made his first appearance of the season and scored on the Bulldogs' opening drive.
"We just want to make sure we're fully healthy before we get to our district games," Bulldogs coach Travis Roland said. "It's good to see him get back out there and look like himself."
The thing Roland was most proud of on offense, however, was with the offensive line play and lack of penalties.
"The thing that's hurt us in the big games has been penalties," he said. "They've been an Achilles heel for us."
On defense, middle linebacker Tobin Hackett has continued to be a standout.
"He's making plays for us," Roland said. "I think he's going to be a guy all year long who is going to make plays for us. His effort is second to none."
