Seabreeze (1-2) lost to Atlantic 32-0 on the night of Monday, Sept. 9, at Atlantic High School. The Sandcrabs’ defense gave up five touchdowns on the ground, and the Sandcrabs’ offense couldn’t get past the first-down marker until midway through the third quarter.
Regardless, Seabreeze’s first-year head coach, Pat Brown, was pleased with his team’s attitude — despite the disappointing outcome.
“I loved that the guys didn’t quit,” Brown said after the game. “The defense was on the field a good amount, and they just had a lot of fight in them.”
"We know as far as the leaders on offense, Otis Walker and Avery Randolph are the two big ones. We expect a lot from them."

The Sandcrabs’ defense, despite the score, was actually quite effective against the Sharks. Although the Sharks scored on the game’s opening possession, the Sandcrabs’ defense forced multiple 3-and-outs and stopped the Sharks twice on fourth down in route to a 14-0 halftime deficit.
However, the Sandcrabs’ offense struggled to move the ball against Atlantic’s defense.
The Sandcrabs made a change at quarterback near the end of the third quarter, and junior Johnny Gardella completed a 19-yard, over-the-shoulder pass to senior receiver Avery Randolph for Seabreeze’s first touchdown of the game — but it was negated due to a holding penalty on the offensive line.
“There’s just things we have to clean up,” Brown said. “We’ve got to be able to move the ball. We weren’t able to do that tonight, and that killed us.”
The game against Atlantic was initially slated for Friday, Sept. 6, but the threat of Hurricane Dorian forced the teams to reschedule. Both teams were limited to three days of practice for Monday night’s matchup.
Up next, the Sandcrabs face Deltona at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Deltona High School. The Sandcrabs have another shortened week of practice to prepare for their district-opener.
"At the end of the day, we worked hard during the summer for times like this," Brown said.
