Matanzas' volleyball team was feeling good after the first two sets of the Pirates' match against Seabreeze the night of Friday, Sept. 12, at Matanzas High School.
The Pirates, coming off a four-set loss to Atlantic the night prior, captured the opening two sets against the Sandcrabs 25-19 and 25-22, respectively. They were poised to sweep the Sandcrabs in straight sets.
However, the Sandcrabs battled back, dominating the third and fourth sets 25-19 and 25-21, respectively. The Sandcrabs got up early in the fifth set, as well, and didn't look back, knocking off the Pirates 15-11.
Up next, Matanzas (3-5, 0-1) plays St. Joseph Academy at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, on the road.
"I think we played hard, but we've just got to learn how to finish the game," Matanzas coach Julie Menendez said. "We've got to learn how to finish when we're in matches. We have to complete matches, and we don't know how to do that yet."
