1:51 a.m. — Intersection of Woodlands Boulevard and Sandpiper Circle
DUI. A 46-year-old Holly Hill woman was arrested after a police officer saw her vehicle parked at the end of the cul-de-sac, and attempt to drive away by spinning the tires multiple times in different directions. She almost hit other vehicles, the officer noted.
The woman appeared to be intoxicated, and police began a DUI investigation. During the investigation, police noted she could not stand on her own without stumbling or almost falling over. The woman told police she thought she was home and pulling into her driveway. She was almost 3 miles away from her home. The woman admitted to drinking over four shots of vodka, as well as not eating anything in the last two days.
She was taken to jail.
2 p.m. — Interchange Boulevard
Harvest an endangered plant. An owner of a wooded property called police after spotting two individuals picking his palmetto berries without permission. The berry-pickers, a DeLand man and woman, told police they didn't have a permit to pick the berries.
However, both had a large garbage bag of berries taken from the property, the reporting officer said in the report. Because the individuals didn't have a criminal record, they were issued a notice to appear in court rather than be arrested.
The berries were turned over to the property owner.
1:29 p.m. — First block of Castle Manor Drive
Larceny. A home's air conditioning unit was stolen sometime this month. When exactly? No one really knows.
The homeowner's son first noticed it missing while he was boarding up for the hurricane, and notified his mother, who later told police the unit could have been stolen around Aug. 1, because "the air was blowing hot" since then. That was her best guess.
No fingerprints were found, and since the homeowner is preparing to sell the residence, workers have been coming and going all month, police reported. The unit was valued at $8,000, and police have no suspects.
