Friday, April 3 marked the first day of closed beaches in Volusia County, and Beach Safety personnel issued 120 verbal warnings, one written warning and one citation to people who ignored the closure.
Beach Safety stated in its daily update that Beach Safety remained busy educating beachgoers of the closure, and that the county closed the beaches as an additional effort to combat a potential surge in COVID-19 cases.
All beach approaches, pedestrian and vehicular, are closed. Beachside parks are closed, and so are off-beach parking lots and walkovers. Beach Safety staff will fly a double red flag, indicating that the water is closed to the public.
If people fail to comply with the county order, or if Beach Safety staff sees repeat violators, it will issue a second-degree misdemeanor which comes with a $500 fine.
