The Racing Fingers Quilt Guild of Ormond Beach is making face masks for local facilities, including assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals and doctors' offices.
In addition, the Byrd's Nest Quilt Shop on Granada is handing out free fabric scraps for people willing to make masks, as well as collecting completed masks for distribution. Contact [email protected] or visit byrdsnestquiltshop.com for more information.
The guild has made over 700 masks.
In partnership with Food Brings Hope, Jersey Mike's Subs donated 200 subs each to Adventhealth Daytona and Halifax Health in appreciation for the hospital's role in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, according to a press release.
FBH hope volunteers Janet and Bob Kelley delivered the subs to Advent Health last Thursday, April 2, and Dan Dean delivered the subs to Halifax Health on Friday, April 3. Jersey Mike's chose FBH as its charity of choice during its March Month of Giving, the press release states.
Jersey Mike's was able to raise $6,000 for FBH, which will allow for the nonprofit to supply food and resources to families in need in Volusia County.
Realty Pros Assured donated $4,635 to Food Brings Hope Inc. to help families struggling to make ends meet while out of work.
The funding came from the company donating 1% of its commission dollars since March 17. The contribution will allow for more than 460 weekly food bags to be distributed. Realty Pros asks that anyone who has the means to help reaches out to FBH at 317-5767 or by email at [email protected]. A total of $40 a month can provide a family with a weekly food bag.
“Our hearts go out to the families who may not be able to work due to the current Coronavirus epidemic and want to make sure, through our contribution, that these families have enough food and other necessities," said Realty Pros Assured owner Bill Navarra in a press release. "Food Brings Hope is an organization that will make sure 100% of all donations directly and quickly reach the families in need.”
The United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties recently announced a COVID-19 Relief Fund to help support nonprofit response efforts, to be distributed in waves to address the evolving community needs.
The UWVFC Board is contributing $10,000 to the fund and is asking for donations from community members and businesses to fulfill that goal. The first wave of funding will be distributed by April 30 to nonprofit organizations providing assistance in essential services such as food, rent or mortgage, utilities and childcare, according to a press release.
“We anticipate the need will be like nothing we have experienced before and that calls for our response to be like nothing we have addressed before," said Board Chair Rene Bell Adams in a press release. "The United Way Board of Directors issues a heartfelt appeal to our community to help us double the United Way’s contribution. This will allow us to provide necessary resources for our partners who are themselves experiencing unprecedented needs and are stretched incredibly thin."

The Jerry Doliner Food bank of the Jewish Federation needs your help to keep feeding local families in need.
Executive Director Gloria Max said in an email that though the food bank is able to keep up with its supply of food, it is costing the nonprofit more money due to the ongoing pandemic. The Jewish Federation is asking the public to donate to help continue assistance to those in need, as 100% of donations go toward food.
