Heading southbound on S.R. A1A this week? If so, expect lane closures.
The city of Ormond Beach announced on its website that, as a result of the Florida Department of Transportation working on A1A intersection improvements at Cardinal Drive and Harvard Drive, westbound Harvard Drive will be closed on Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. This will allow FDOT’s contractor, Chinchor Electric Inc., to place drilled shafts as part of the mast arm traffic signal installation.
The $1.2 million project is meant to provide traffic signal upgrades for the intersections at Cardinal Drive and A1A, as well as Harvard Drive and A1A. It will also include pedestrian lighting, pedestrian signal upgrades, roadway resurfacing, curb ramp and sidewalk upgrades, as well as drainage improvements, new signing and pavement markings and ADA improvements, according to the project file.
FDOT estimates the project will be completed this summer.
Due to the lane closures, detour routes will be marked.
In a Facebook post, the Ormond Beach Police Department asked residents avoid the area if possible.
All Ormond Beach Police officers will be wearing masks and gloves during any encounter with the public, the city announced on Facebook on Monday.
The measure is meant to keep officers safe, the city stated, and asked residents to alert friends and neighbors to prevent alarm.
Volusia County opened a Citizens Information Center on Thursday, April 2, to help answer general questions regarding COVID-19 in the county. Residents can call 866-345-0345 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
All health-related questions should still be directed to the Florida Department of Health Call Center at 1-866-779-6121.
At the County Council meeting on Tuesday, April 7, Emergency Management Director Jim Judge said they have received about 60 calls a day.
The May 14 Planning Board meeting will no longer be happening, announced city Planning Director Steven Spraker in an email.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 11.
