Health care workers and first responders at local hospitals received a free meal this week courtesy of the Daytona Auto Mall, Food Supply Inc. and Houligan's.
Hosted by Fields BMW, the businesses held a luncheon for 500 at AdventHealth Daytona Beach on Monday, April 13, and Halifax Health Hospital on Wednesday, April 15. The luncheon was held to show appreciation for those on the front lines of COVID-19.
Also, AdventHealth received a second round of free lunch thanks to Sodexo and Food Brings Hope, who partnered together to deliver 300 boxed lunches to health care professionals on Wednesday, April 15. FBH also brought over thank-you cards made by students in their programs, said Lindsay Cashio, director of communications at AdventHealth, in an email.
At Halifax Health, the Root Family Foundation of Ormond Beach donated 500 protective face shields, protective gear critical for the safety of health care workers treating COVID-19 cases. These are in short supply nationwide, according to a press release. The donation was made possible by Mathieu and Vanessa Root, siblings, along with Nicole Cox of the Root Family Foundation.
“The Root Family has a long history of civic leadership, community involvement and charitable giving here in the Daytona Beach area, so their willingness to step up to provide critical resources during this time comes as no surprise,” said John Guthrie, vice president of corporate communications for Halifax Health, in the press release.
In response to COVID-19, the Root Family has retooled business operations to produce face shields.
