Unarmed burglary. A 35-year-old man was arrested after a condominium resident notified police that the man was trying to steal a car from the parking garage.
The resident told police the man admitted he was "trying to boost a car" when the resident approached him in the garage and asked if he needed help; the resident had spotted him trying to open a door to a parked vehicle.
Police found the man in a nearby hotel, and when they asked him what he had been doing, he told police he was "looking for a suspicious car to boost," and that he was going to turn the car in for a reward if he found a bomb in it.
An employee of another condo also told police that he saw the man in their garage and that the man had stated he was "weak, dying of thirst." The employee said at first, he thought the man was a delivery man and allowed him to sit in the lobby and drink a glass of water. But then he realized the man "was up to no good," according to the police report, and had him leave. But 10 minutes later, the employee had to chase him off after he spotted the man underneath the tarp of a Jeep.
First block of Sunshine Boulevard — 1:38 a.m.
Loitering or prowling. Police arrested a 33-year-old Daytona Beach man who was spotted pulling on door handles to businesses and acting "very strange," according to the police report. The man was making weird movements, talking to himself, scratching himself and walking around aimlessly.
The reporting person told police that the man had also been seen taking his clothes off. When police made contact with the man, he told officers that he was lost and had been changing his clothes. He told police that he had been drinking in Holly Hill with a friend and then began walking home, but on the way got into a vehicle with a stranger and continued to drink. The stranger continued giving him alcohol and made a sexual advance while at a park, according to the man's statement to police, making the man uncomfortable. He then got out of the car and began walking, but told police he didn't know where he was.
Police noted that the man didn't appear to be drunk. The reporting officer asked if the man had been pulling on business door handles to access a phone, and the man said he wasn't, but that if the witness "said I was pulling on door handless I probably was, but I don't remember. Maybe, I thought it was a house."
He was taken to jail.
