The Schoolcrafts' Christmas Village Display is now open.
Back for another year, the inflatable characters display featuring lighted walkways is located at 111 Pine Creek Court. It is free and open daily to the public from 5:30-10 p.m.
Donations are appreciated and help the local family keep operating the display for free. This year, there is also a small outdoor theater to allow visitors to watch Christmas movies. CDC guidelines are being observed. Visit Facebook.com/scdecorationsormondbeach/ for more information.
The 11th-annual Soles4Souls shoe drive is now underway.
Ormond Beach resident Matthew Monroe is collecting gently-used shoes for the nonprofit that helps distribute shoes to people in need around the world. Last year, Monroe collected a record of 1,400 pairs of shoes and he was recognized by the City Commission for his effortts.
The Monroes have placed a bin in front of their home for the collection of shoes. Donation pickups can also be arranged. Please call Cynthia Monroe at 678-525-3160.
Last month, the Ormond Beach Fire Department held its first "Movember Mustache" contest, which helped raise $160 as of Monday, Dec. 7, for men's health.
The winner of the best mustache contest was firefighter Josh Cady, according to the Ormond Beach Professional Firefighters Facebook page. The winner was selected over voting on Facebook. The fire department's fundraising goal was $100. To donate, visit movember.com/t/obfd?mc=1
The annual Margarita Ball may have been canceled due to COVID-19, but the Margarita Society of Volusia County still wishes to provide local children with gifts this holiday season.
Thus, the society is holding a "Toy Drive with Sheriff Santa" at 4:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec, 10, at the Daytona Toyota, located at 451 N. Nova Road. Sheriff Mike Chitwood will be dressed up as Santa Claus starting at 5 p.m. Those wishing to participate can drive-thru or drop off an unwrapped gift.
The toy drive will benefit the Volusia County Sheriff's Office holiday programs.
