After an impasse, the Volusia County School District and teachers' union Volusia United Educators have now reached an agreement regarding the teacher salary allocation, which includes an increase to $44,335 for the minimum salary, according to a press release on Friday, Dec. 18.

In addition, all teachers will receive a minimum of a 2.5% salary increase, and eligible teachers will receive a longevity bonus on top of the salary increase. This is based on the memorandum on understanding that was agreed upon back in the spring, the press release states, and will be included n the Jan. 29, 2021 paycheck.

The school district stated the salary increases will be retroactive to July 1.

The ratification process will begin early January and teachers will be provided notice. The school board will review the agreement on Jan. 12, 2021 for approval to submit to the Florida Department of Education.

In a previous press release where the district answered questions about the negotiations, it stated that negotiations began on July 23 and continued until the first impasse hearing on Sept. 17. Then, both the district and VUE asked for an extension and a delay of negotiations on salary until after the negotiations about school reopening were wrapped up. The salary negotiations picked back up on Oct. 6 and an impasse was declared on Nov. 17.
