The annual Roy Lee Execute to Impact pre-Christmas shoot-out got started with a win over Halifax Academy the for Seabreeze Sandcrabs girls basketball team on Friday, Dec. 18 at New Smyrna Beach High School. The final score was 52-19.
Seabreeze came out strong against their opponent, the Halifax Academy Knights. Shooting guard Madison Kollar led the team with 9 points, all 3-pointers. The Knights could not get on the scoreboard, and Seabreeze wrapped up the first quarter with a 17-0 lead. Halifax rallied in the second quarter, matching the 'Crabs 10 points, finishing at halftime with 27-10 deficit.
Coach Rogers has been coaching the girls team for Seabreeze High School the past two years. “We’re coming together," he said. "The year before I got there, they had won one game. We started off this season with a girl having a heart attack. Got to take it one day at a time.”
The Sandcrabs stayed consistent in the third quarter with another 10 points led by Aline Braun and Tonila Jackson with 4 points each. Knights fought hard to maintain their momentum but exited the third quarter with 7 points, 5 scored by My-ceonia Saunders.
Deandra Rogers added a couple of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter topping off the hoops for Seabreeze. Powerhouse forward Sarah Randolph grabbed her 100th rebound for the season, helping Seabreeze to finish the fourth quarter with 15 points.
Seabreeze followed up with a 43-39 win against Menendez Dec. 19 and look forward to playing First Baptist Christian Academy on Jan. 7.
